“Arm the people, and your army shall never falter.” - Alexandrik Goebel, Leader of New Sunlight
New Sunlight is one of the most prominent guild for adventurers looking for work in the Salvainia area.
Organization owned by: Ansari
Description & Origin
New Sunlight is a guild founded by Alexandrik, a veteran formerly in Haslan’s services. He rose through the rank of Salvainia’s army rapidly, due to his own supernatural prowess and sense of justice. Eventually, Alexandrik became frustrated by perceived indifference to injustice amongst some of the soldiers. He formed New Sunlight together with like-minded individuals, though at the time was under the name Red Falcons.
The guild was initially not much more than a mercenary band and a militia, enlisting in multiple contracts while also pursuing more honorable campaigns against raiders and the undead. The Red Falcons led a party through a tomb to seize a rumored wealth of gold, finally giving them the resources to make them a formidable fighting force, one that the standing military even began to grow wary of. However, the treasures that were plundered very quickly revealed themselves to be cursed.
A self proclaimed army of Darkness, the Farfell Army, besieged the castle at night, decimating the Red Falcon forces outside of the walls of the headquarters. A third of the army they had amassed were almost instantly wiped out, with the rest left to defend themselves from within the castle walls. The undead forces were undead, turning the ones that were slain to fight against their former comrades. Alexandrik was prepared to return the treasure, as well as sacrifice his own life, for the safety of the Red Falcons, but his guild refused; they would fight with him to the end. In a fearless and direct charge, the remaining forces pushed back the undead, fighting all the way back to the tomb to slay the undead king that sought to kill them all.
Riding off the popularity gained from defeating the Siege of Farfell, the Red Falcons gained a reputation as a ferocious, just, combat-capable mercenary company attracting all sorts of starry-eyed recruits - which attracted the attention of the Emperor himself. The Emperor seeks to control the company, lest it grow overly popular - and use it as his own tool, and struck a bargain - the mercenary company would be given an official position as a company under the Emperor’s employ and protections - and be his shield and sword against his rivals - after all, there’s plenty of notables who want to usurp the Emperor’s position, and a band of popular mercenaries without any noble sponsor was an easy to tempt ally.
The company was reformed and named New Sunlight, in honor of a speech given by an anonymous soldier. With their remaining resources and manpower, they formed the current battle school, hoping to arm and educate the people in more dire times. They expanded two a second, secret base, though found themselves incredibly undermanned. They began a massive recruitment drive that is still going on in Ramul Ta today.
With the resources gained from the Emperor, over the years the guild transitioned from a mercenary company to a quasi holy order of sort - with the order taking on an increasingly important role as a trustworthy arbitrator, offerer of mercenary contracts and bankers. The guild claims to be multi-confessional, though most of its members are followers of the Silnarian pantheon, with a significant and influential group of Alist - including Alexandrik himself, rumored to be an Alist. Despite the relatively dangerous presence of an armed and popular group in the middle of the capital, so far the relationship between the Imperial House and the Guild remains cordial, and is likely to stay so as long as the Emperor has bigger internal enemies.
Important NPCs
Alpha Base
Leader
Alexandrik Goebel, Alpha Base Battle Commander
6’1 Male Air Macen, 30 Years Old
Alexandrik is the Battle Commander of the New Sunlight Alpha Base, which acts as the Operational Headquarters for the entire guild, and the founder of New Sunlight. His responsibilities involve directing the academy towards the future, discussing and veteoing major decisions for the organization, and leading the forces in large scale campaigns. Alexandrik also makes a point to plan smaller quests, train members, and help with registration. He has a chivalrous and kind personality, though has a sarcastic streak. It’s rare for anybody but the highest ranking members to see Alexandrik outside of full armor.
Nadia Ringworth, Alpha Base Drillmaster
5’11 Female Earth Macen, 44 Years Old
Nadia is the Drillmaster of the New Sunlight Alpha Base. Her responsibilities are ensuring the members learn what they need to, registering new members, and ensuring the quality of armaments. She also helps organize quests, spars with members, and manages the fortress guard. She’s very strict and serious, known to keep the entire organization from falling apart. She’s fully aware that she’s a bit of a stereotype.
Marco Redfoot, Alpha Base Intelligence Officer
6’4 Male Mogash, 122 Years Old
Marco is the Intelligence Officer for the New Sunlight Alpha Base. His responsibilities are verifying quests, managing the difficulty and rewards, and allocating resources. He also helps to strategize larger missions, inform other leaders, and training members. He’s a very shrewd man, navigating conversations quickly with wit and sarcasm. Marco has a soft side for new and aspiring members, and is known for having favorites.
Algar Dy’uum, Alpha Base Master Blacksmith
4’8 Male Hill Lora, 98 Years Old
Algaar is the Master Blacksmith of the New Sunlight Alpha Base. His responsibilities are ensuring the organization can arm its members, supplying commissions for officers, and advising in warfare. He can also be found teaching classes, helping in the kitchen, and occasionally at the stables. His gruff exterior and dry humor can make it very difficult to tell when he is joking. Those who can respect the humble, mundane things will find him easy to understand.
Etan Gwain, Alpha Base Master Healer
5’10 Male Water Macen, 22 Years Old
Etan is the Healing Advisor at the New Sunlight Alpha base. His duties typically consist of running their hospital, performing surgeries, and organizing requisitions and inventories. Etan also performs regular healing duties, helps train in the yard, and occasionally protects the front gate. He’s a helpful, if private, person known by many throughout the base. Many people find him to be caught between too many things.
Brothua , Alpha Base Questmaster
6'8 Male Mogash, 27 Years Old
Ansari's Quest NPC
A very handsome green orc with a bit of a penchant for laziness. He is the questmaster of Alpha Base and responsible for getting proper contracts.
NPC Members
Tyvell Wingham, Alpha Base Valiant
6’3 Male Fire Macen, 27 Years Old
A rising star within New Sunlight, Tyvell at the Alpha Base became a Valiant faster than any member before him, excluding the founders. Admittedly, people around him respect him for his strength, bravery, and kindness, though not his intelligence. He’s hard to get a hold of, typically on a mission, focusing on training, or sleeping. A fantastic sparring partner, but not someone you’d really want to get in a fight against.
Isen Lio, Alpha Base Knight
5’9 Male Rabbit Kemonomimi, 59 Years Old
Isen is a Knight in the New Sunlight Alpha Base. To most, he doesn’t look like much, and his timid behavior only adds to that assertion. However, his extensive experience in arcane arts is a valuable addition to the battle academy. He can often be found mentoring young students, escorting squires and fledglings, or muttering to himself in the mess hall. Isen is a worrier, for sure, but reliable if he says he’ll do something.
Ima Fairwind, Alpha Base Squire
5’5 Female High Elf, 22 Years Old
Ima is a long-standing member of New Sunlight though has not quite progressed into the higher ranks. This comes from a tendency to assist with the simpler and often boring jobs, though there are rumors that she’s afraid to go back out into the field. She’s often found keeping guard offering to be a beginner sparring partner.
Drake Vraggon, Alpha Base Page
6’0 Male Reptilian Beastkin, 17 Years Old
A young and passionate recruit, Drake has mostly only tagged along quests, doing his best to avoid direct danger. Still, as his heart is set on helping people, he is often volunteering for less desirable jobs, such as cleaning, cooking, and running the front desk when no one else can. He’s young, hopeful, and not the brightest, and all of it reads like an open book.
Training
New Sunlight provides training to its members. Members can sign up with instructors who would offer tutoring at a guild regulated fee. These can be used to justify character updates for gaining skills, and take place in small classes with individual sparring sessions.
Magical training is also provided, however, these are mostly focused on healing and clerical magic.
Rates should be negotiated with individual instructors, these fees are for guidance only.

Quest and Bounties
To join New Sunlight, a 100 silver membership fee must be paid. Payment may be delayed, but until the fee is paid, the only thing the provisional member can do is to take on bounties.
Fledgling rank is the rank most non-combat capable people join at. If a new member seems to be experienced and/or well-equipped, they will start at the rank of Page instead.
Benefits are inherited from the previous ranks.
To gain a promotion, you should ask a high ranking NPC / PC for it. Depending on the number of bounties so far and what you’ve completed, and your chosen career path, a suitable mission (known as crucible) would be assigned to you for promotion.
Currently, non-combatant may be promoted to the rank of Knight at best. This might be changed in the future.
Ranks and Requirements
New Sunlight uses a triple ranking system, separating ranks into Combat Ranks, Administrative Ranks and Honorary Ranks.
- Combat Ranks: Denote an adventurer’s pure combat ability, and grant the least opportunities and benefits - It is possible for a newbie to be ranked as the highest rank in combat ability.
- Administrative Ranks: Mean the adventurers have taken on responsibilities to run the guild, and provide income and pension.
Honorary Rank: Are given to adventurers that have contributed greatly to the guild, without necessarily taking on any administrative ranks, and provide some benefits but also expectations.
Combat Ranks
Combat ranks are named after functional metal, starting from Copper and ending at Adamantite. The standards are very rough - and tends to be a bit more fluid for a mage, too. The ranking system is known as a Knighsworth system, which rates people as worth a certain amount of knight.
Listed also is the typical NPC range.
The test is not necessarily the only way to win a promotion - New Sunlight also performs trial by combat for the earlier ranks or bestows combat ranks based on performance in dangerous quests. However, it is highly reluctant to allow people to skip rank early on by quest without a good recommendation.
New Sunlight also recognizes that people work better in teams, so it is unlikely to hold pure trials by combat after the Iron rank, preferring to judge by performance instead.
- Unranked: Not ranked. Exists, breath, pay the membership dues
- Bronze : To be worth a knight in combat. Or to cast a spell of the first circle.
- Iron: To be worth two knights in combat. Or to cast a spell of the second circle.
- Steel: To be worth three knights in combat. Or to cast a spell of the third circle.
- Mithril: To be worth four knights in combat. Or to cast a spell of the fourth circle.
- Adamantite: To be worth five knights in combat. Or to cast a spell of the fifth circle.
Administrative Ranks
For most administrative ranks, New Sunlight utilizes a policy of having relatively high salary and benefits so that high ranking administrative members are not as inclined to become corrupt.
High-ranking guild members are often expected to supplement their income by participating in quests, or investing in other objects.
In addition, the Guild Master may decide to distribute bonuses to members based on their performance out of the guild funding.
Each chapter of the guild has independent finances, and decisions are made by the Chapter Council. The Chapter Council consists of all officers of Fourth Grade or above, effectively meaning every specialist.
Vote Weight:
- Guild Master: 3
- (Adjunct) Chapter Master: 2 (Stack with Guild Master)
- 2nd & 3rd Grade Officers: 2
- 4th Grade Officers: 1
4th Grade Officers or above can accept someone into New Sunlight as a member.

The Battle Commander commands multiple Captains underneath, which consists of trusted adventurers who are expected to organize ad hoc groups to deal with existential or important quests or missions.
The Questmaster is responsible for managing Quest Overseer. The Questmaster’s department is responsible for seeking jobs, maintaining client reputation, vetting clients.
The Drillmaster is responsible for heading all trainers underneath, holding classes, hiring and firing trainers from New Sunlight and setting schedules. They are also responsible for the well-being of trainees.
The Steward is responsible for maintaining the guild’s roster, and whether to induct someone into the guild or not. Usually they have one or two assistants - but is considered the least influential of all the 3rd Grade Officer roles.
The Quartermaster & Purser is considered one of the most important roles. The purser is responsible for managing and tracking the finances of the organization, and dispersing fund and compensation where needed. The Quartermaster technically has rule over the Purser - but Purser’s job is somewhat independent.
The Quartermaster manage all the logistics of the guild, ensuring supplies are topped up and transferring supplies and money between the different departments according to their need
4th Grade Logistic Officers
In spite of different roles, nearly all of the 4th Grade Officers have the same salary - The more valuable specialists like Healer, Smith and such are expected to make more money by charging a regulated commission or profit amount. The salary is meant to retain them within the guild.
Salary: 40 silver / day
The Master Healer, Master Smith, Master Alchemist are responsible for managing lower ranked specialists, teaching them and producing goods. The Master Smith in particular is responsible for all kinds of weapon and equipment maintenance - even if it doesn’t have to do with smithing in specific. They are also expected to import or purchase where needed.
The Head Chef is responsible for feeding everyone and hiring external cooks to man the Chapter’s Mess Hall.
The Master of the Houses are expected to maintain the dormitory and also off-premise housings or renting managed by the guild.
4th Grade Non-Logistic Officers
Salary: 40 silver / day for Quest Overseer, 20 silver / day for others.
Typical Actual Income: 50 - 70 silver a day.
The relatively paltry pay of Trainer and Captain is meant to encourage them to host more training - to take on more quests, and to also ensure the guild’s finance is not overstretched.
The Quest Overseer however, benefits from a higher than usual salary - plus the mechanisms of deducting money from their bonus if NS members are injured or killed in combat. In this way the guild seeks to use a high salary to ensure that Quest Overseers are not tempted to take on dangerous but profitable contracts, and to ensure that Quest Overseers also vet quests properly for safety.
Although Captains and Quest Overseer both receive kickback in the form of contract fee or commission fee, this is balanced by the fact the two are both responsible for injuries that occur underneath their watch. In case of quests without any NS Captains involved, the Quest Overseer’s wallet a high share of the compensation for any injured NS members.
Sworns
Salary: 10 Silver / Day
A Sworn is effectively a member of New Sunlight that promises to aid a Captain or multiple Captain in important quests - and receive a small stipend for it. They are in effect New Sunlight’s armed reserve, to be called upon in time of emergency. They are also some of the first to be considered for promotion to Captain.
Healer, Smith, Alchemists
Salary: 10 Silver / Day
Healer, Smith, Alchemists etc. have a paltry fixed income - but is expected to make up for it by per-piece charge. New Sunlight regulates the profit of its members to be around 20% of the cost of producing an item - with labor cost considered.
Actual income usually varies between 10 - 50 silver, depending on skills.

Trivia
Song of Farfell
"At the beginning, all things must start.
An empty hand, reaching out for help
becomes the gauntleted fist, and sword to bear.
The cry of the hopeless
leads the horns of justice and triumph.
Every roaring flame must begin
with the faintest of embers, the smallest of sparks.
Behind the darkness of every shadow,
of every foul and bloodied act,
grows the promise of hope, of freedom, of fire.
All nights that come to pass
hold the promise of dawn,
the promise of New Sunlight." - Unknown, Farfell Siege
