Dezabia is a theocratic kingdom built along the length of the two rivers of Saya and Faya - which merge together to form River Dezab, which is named that for the reason of expediency. The country is dominated by the Dezabian, a group of kemono of southern origin that chiefly expresses the trait of a jackal and a cat - both of which are revered as sacred animals that are manifestations of their two chief gods.
Government
Ever since the last theocratic monarchy was overthrown by invading South Silnarian and most of the royal family members killed in the chaos, the powerful priesthood of the country have assumed direct control. The country was divided up into a hundred counties (or grand parish, if you may), to each a high priestess was elected amongst the local priest, and each in turn elected a provincial high priestess - often from the most prestigious and important city, who then elected one High Priestess that would reign until her death. An election always takes place after the death of the high priestess, traditionally in the capital and attended by every single high priestess.
Only those who are considered priestess are allowed to hold any kind of government position, and so far, Dezabia’s theocracy reliant government are working out..But some worries should the priesthood exhibits obvious corruption as they tends to, the powerful priest-state of Dezabia may unravel quite rapidly.
Locations & Important Figures
- Kamila Island (Camel Island). Mostly inhabited by Thalassites, though under Dezabian Rule (nominally).
- Populated with over a million people, despite its mountainous terrain. Have numerous cities. The island came under Dezabian dominion after inviting them as peacekeeper during a war between a coalition of city led by Themestia and Alepounta, pitting east and west against each other.
Events
- Renewed Ambitions: With the end of the previously stable but decaying Dezabian monarchy, the priest with a newfound mandate has put the country on a path to stability and greatness again, and have enhanced its military capabilities greatly - the fall of Rakmurse and the appointment of a heathen as High Priestess (An elf, nonetheless) was too gravely insulting to the psyche of the Dezabian people.
- Champion at the Head: The current High Priestess, Askalz Zyuni, won the election largely by promising to become a living embodiment of a champion of the faith, and is known for her fiery mastery of fire magic and politics. So far, her political mandate to reform the religion has not yet run dry - for the priesthood are still shocked out of inaction by the South Silnarian invasion. There are great changes in Safaism occuring with her at the lead, and new texts and being compiled, with inconvenient facts and inconsistent one “forgotten” while Askalz attempts to produce a religious canon that will last the age and stand the test of time and foreign invaders.
- Western Ambition: Previously, Dezabia’s attempt to invade the west was largely based on royal ambitions - now, it is based on a sense of religious obligations - there are not inconsiderable amount of Safaism followers in the west, and with Siui also growing ambitious, it is the duty of every faithful believer of the twin goddesses against the infidels. Safa Fino!
